Thrive is back! And the results of the Facebook poll are in.
Weight loss & nutrition won.
It's hard to beat weight loss. I mean - nothing tastes better skinny. Except when it doesn't....And in the face of all the great tasting food out there, social gatherings and work events, it's hard to keep on the straight and narrow when it comes to eating right. I mean, if we all had that willpower, then weight loss wouldn't have won the poll!
I've been in Australia over the last few weeks visiting family and it soon became pretty obvious that I left my willpower at home. I indulged in homemade passion fruit ice cream, marshmallowy strawberry pavlova, beautiful cheeses from the local dairy, fresh croissants & hot cross buns for breakfast, delicious artisan pizzas and plenty of french fries -- all washed down with a healthy dose of wine or my new favourite drink: pear cider!
The problem of course is that I had to undo my pant button as soon as I settled into my seat for the flight home. And when I landed and checked my phone, I saw a reminder email about my friend's wedding in 2 weeks!
Why is gaining weight so easy and losing weight so hard? It's so not fair.
The good news is that I'm no stranger to weight loss. I had to lose 30lbs after both my pregnancies (well....closer to 40 actually with my first). So, losing 7 lbs now should be relatively straightforward.
I know exactly what I have to do: TRADE UP & RAMP UP!
What do I mean by that?
- Trade empty calories for nutrient-rich calories
- Trade bad fats for good fats
- Ramp up the exercise schedule to 4x a week
Weight loss does not mean going hungry or calorie counting. That's just a recipe for depression and hormonal imbalances.
Over the next few weeks, we're going to look at each one of these three TRADE UP & RAMP UP rules to see how they can help you lose weight in a sustainable, healthy way.
Off for a hike!
